How Do You Webinar?

“Webinar” Short for Web-based seminar, a presentation, lecture, workshop or seminar that is transmitted over the Web.

A key feature of a Webinar is its interactive elements — the ability to give, receive and discuss information. Contrast with Webcast, in which the data transmission is one way and does not allow interaction between the presenter and the audience.

I don’t know about you, but I hate the thought of paying for a Webinar subscription; especially when I need the service on a limited basis. My needs are simple: I need a secure environment where I can control access, easy operation, the ability to upload MS PowerPoint slides, and I really don’t want anyone to have to download a unique client. Lucky for me there’s a slick solution from ZOHO which meets all my basic needs.

ZOHO Show is a great tool for creating and sharing your presentations on-line. The application will import PowerPoint(.ppt, .pps) or OpenOffice(.odp, .sxi) files up to 10mb in size, and export to PowerPoint, OpenOffice, HTML, and PDF. The editing UI support most of the standard functions you would expect in a presentation package:

  • Themes
  • Shapes
  • Arrows
  • Flow Chart
  • Symbols
  • Clip Art
  • Presenter Notes
  • WSIWG Editing

With ZOHO’s solid feature set it is possible to create killer presentations without using MS Office. What gets me stoked is ZOHO’s sharing capability.

Pushing the Remote button creates a private link that can be sent to your Webinar participants. Participants don’t need to download any special clients or software, or join any services. They connect to the presentation through their web browser. Once connected they will see the presentation in the main screen with a participant/chat frame to the right.

Simple, clean, easy to use, and best of all FREE. Give it a shot, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

    bernie, thanks for the great tip. You will may be interested to know that todays post is because of your DimDim recommendation. Keep the tips coming.
  • I would be interested to know if zoHo is open source. Dim Dim is another great free webinar tool, although the free versions is limited to 20 invitees it would be great for small business or individuals that want to conduct small meetings. Much better than paying a monthy subscription service.
    Does ZoHo have a limit on the number of attendees?
