OmniFocus Pre-Beta Update

Monday, April 23rd, 2007

I and some twenty-five hundred other fans of KGDT (Kinkless GTD) and Omni Group have been less than patiently waiting for the early beta release of OmniFocus. OmniFocus is to be the joint creation of Ethan Schoonover and the crew at Omni Group. Beta release dates of early spring were tossed around in January 2007, but this seems questionable today.

For those of you who are not familiar with KGTD, it is a series of scripts that run in OmniOutliner Pro providing one of the best GTD interfaces available. The package synchronizes projects, and context based tasks with iCal providing a solid GTD environment. Items can also be added to the system quickly through Quicksilver.

Subscribers to the OmniFocus mailing list were teased with a project update on Friday (April 20, 2007). Hopes are high for the new joint venture. Some of the listed beta features shall include:

• Quick entry panel, accessible via keyboard shortcut from any application
• Import for kGTD documents
• Focus feature for opening a specific folder or project in its own window
• Project or context work views, both with extensive filtering and sorting options
• iCal synchronization (enabling you to get to Palm and other devices)
• Printing support that will include printing to index cards
• Project outlines include hierarchical tasks and task groups
• Pop-up calendars for assigning start, due and completion dates
• Project and task filtering by project state, dates, next actions, available actions and more
• Rich text support for project and task notes
• Ability to attach files to any task or project

For those folks who are interested in further details please visit the OmniFocus Blog and sign up for the beta mailing list.
