The Prodigy And The Pretender
In today’s post I take a look at a couple fairly new applications. One for the iPhone and one for the Mac desktop. iProcrastinate, a task management systems and the updated Today calendar and task application.
A New Entry With Promise
Not just another iPhone task management tool– iProcrastinate billed as “task management for the rest of us” by its creator Craig Otis.
No complicated details required, no fancy, bloated features you’ll never use. iProcrastinate Mobile is simple enough for any user to pick up and understand within seconds, but flexible enough to handle even the most daunting schedule.
The application was released into the iTunes echo systems on Monday. It is now averaging about four and a half stars from customer reviews on iTunes. With those kind of recommendations, its entrance seems to be going pretty well. It also means that I couldn’t ignore it. Students seem to be the biggest fans of the product.

The price (FREE) may have something to do with this.
The system is pretty flexible, letting users organize tasks in several ways.
Use Smart Groups to manage a group of tasks due this week, or only from a few selected subjects. Color-code your items to find what you’re looking for, instantly. Set the priority and due date of a task, break it down into smaller steps (for those more tedious projects) and even add team members for collaborative efforts.
iProcrastinate is no OmniFocus, but then that’s the point. It is a simple easy to use task management application with a few slick features, at the right price.
Currently it is a stand alone application, but according to the author a synchronization feature is planned for the Mac.
Still Not Ready For Primetime
The folks over at Second Gear released an update to Today on Tuesday. Version 1.3 is now available for download.

I did a post on the previous version of this program a while back “SecondGear’s Today- Not Ready for GTD Prime Time“. I thought it was a good concept and a needed product, but in need of more work; especially for the price. The newest release seems to be moving in the right direction. Some of the new features are:
- You can now view tasks for more than just today. They are available for 3, 7, 14 and 30 days in advance.
- Tasks can now be sorted based on calendar, title, priority and due date.
- Added ability to set priority when creating new tasks.
- Added shortcuts for next and previous day navigation.
- Today no longer shows declined event invitations for users on CalDAV servers
- Various bug fixes and enhancements.
I still think it has a way to go, and is over priced at fifteen bucks.
